PreSchool Staff

Roberta Asbill

PreSchool Director

My husband and I moved to the Charlotte area in 1980. God blessed us with two sons who are now both married to wonderful young women.

I have worked with children in one area or another for most of my life beginning at the age of 17 when I began working with 4 year old children in Children’s Church services. I have served in many capacities such as Sunday School teacher, small group leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Full time privately owned Franchised child care,  as well as church based child care center and half day preschool, licensed, and 4 and 5 star centers as teacher, assistant director, and then director. The past 9 years I was blessed to serve in a church based center that provided both full time child care as well as half day preschool. What a blessing God has given me by allowing me to serve Him as director in this wonderful preschool at Stallings UMC.

Sara Czagas

Guppies Classroom Teacher (Young Two’s)

My name is Sara Czagas (Say-Gus), I am a wife of 18+ years, mom of 2 boys (ages 12 & 8) both of whom attended Stallings preschool, our family became church members soon after my oldest son started in the preschool program. We have 2 dogs and a guinea pig!

I've always enjoyed working with children and have had many years of experience with sitting, daycare, nannying, and substituting.  I also enjoy my other part time job as a Licensed Massage & Body Works Therapist.  I'm looking forward to working with everyone this school year.  I'm so excited to see what the future holds for all these beautiful children and watching them as they grow.

Helen Phillips

Owls Classroom Co-Teacher (Older Two’s)

I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.  I attended Western Carolina University and double majored in Art Education and Photography.  After graduating, I returned to Charlotte and married my husband.  We celebrated 11 years this past June.  We have two beautiful children who have gone through the program at Stallings.  Ricky is now a 1st grader and Sophie will be in a PreK class this year.  I taught in Union Co. Public schools for 8 years before staying home with my kids.  This is my second year at Stallings UMC Preschool, and I am so very excited to see what God has planned for us this year!

Kimberly Hetzel

Owls Classroom Co-Teacher (Older Two’s)

This will be my second year as a Teacher here at Stallings UMC Preschool.  I have taken numerous classes in Early Childhood Education, and I am actively involved in the schools that my children attend.  I just want to express my excitement about working with the children this year.  Being around children is my passion, and being able to assist with their learning makes me very happy.  I grew up in Monroe, NC and have lived here most of my life.  I have 2 daughters, ages 12 and 14.  My oldest is attending school at the Union County Early College and my youngest is a 7th grader at Sun Valley Middle.  With school activities and soccer games, we stay very busy!

Missy Pelles

Adventurers Classroom Co-Teacher (Three Year Olds)

My name is Missy Pelles, and I love teaching at Stallings UMC Preschool.  This is my second year at Stallings, but education has been in my blood for many, many years.  Over the last 20 years I have taught many different grade levels from preschool through high school.  Even when my children were young, and I took time off, I continued to stay involved in the Union County school system by being the room parent, tutoring, volunteering, serving on committees, and substitute teaching at their schools.  I graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, where I earned both my B.A. and M.A. degrees.

I am a wife and a mother to three amazing children 15, 12, and 5 years old.  My youngest daughter graduated from SUMC Preschool, and she is very well prepared for Kindergarten.  I am fortunate to be a part of a loving school with such high standards for personal growth and academic achievement in a loving Christian environment.

Kelly Woods

Adventurers Classroom Co-Teacher (Three Year Olds)

I was born and raised in Long Island, New York and moved to the area in June 2008.  My older son Paul attended Stallings Preschool which is where my love of Stallings took root.  His excellent preschool experience ultimately led me to become a preschool teacher.  I am very blessed to be here at Stallings, starting this year, teaching in our Adventurers classroom.  It is also a blessing to know my younger son Jimmy is just down the hallway in the Discoverers classroom.

Malia Philemon

Explorers Classroom Teacher (Pre-K)

I was born and raised in Indian Trail NC.  I come from a very large Christian family.  I have many nieces and nephews, so I have always been around children.  I worked at a five star early child development center for eight years after graduating high school.  Children have always been a passion of mine, and I could not wait to start a family of my own.  I married my husband in 2012, and we welcomed our daughter Khloe in 2014.  I have been a stay at home wife/mother for the past two years.  This will be my first year at Stalling Preschool, and I am very excited to start this new adventure.

Heather Mogan

Discovers Classroom Teacher (Pre-K Four Year Olds)

My husband, Eric, and I have lived in Waxhaw for over ten years.  Our twelve year old son, Connor, is our pride and joy.  My fondest memories of him are remembering the blooming and curious mind of a four year old.  This is truly a magical age, and where my heart belongs in teaching.  I'm excited and look forward to experiencing that same magic with each and every one of your children!

I have over nine years of experience in early childhood education.  My experience includes substitute teaching preschool and elementary age children, tutoring, and five years of teaching four year olds.  I have a bachelor's degree from Florida State University, and earned my Early Childhood Education Certificate from CPCC.  I am thrilled to be a part of Stallings UMC Preschool.  We share the same philosophy in educating young children which involves lots of play and hands-on activities.  "If they're laughing, they're learning!"
